Get To Know Us
We live in a small town outside of Minneapolis, MN on a beautiful lake. My husband David took the sunrise picture above as he was fishing one morning.
Our cattery is in our home and all cats are members of our family first. I have no children so they really are my kids. They sleep with us, play with us, and literally eat with us! We own no cages and our kitten room is our guest room. Our cats are very pampered with four cat beds to choose from, a fireplace and warm sweaters to wear in the winter, a faux fur comforter to lounge upon, and actual drinking glasses to drink fresh water from should they choose (and they do choose).
My name is Lea and I have been a Sphynx enthusiast since 1997 and a Sphynx pet owner since 1998. The first time I heard of this rare breed was from a friend. I was planning on moving into an apartment and was complaining that I wouldn't be able to get a dog and that I was allergic to cats. The friend told me about this hairless breed of cats called Sphynx.I actually didn't believe her. It was just impossible for me to imagine a cat without fur. I began to research the breed on the Internet and the more and more I read, the more fascinated I became. The Sphynx qualities described soon had me hooked and convinced that this was the breed for me. I got my first Sphynx six years ago and have had a total of six since then. You might not end up with as many as I have had - but I must warn you upfront, if you think you will be able to get just one Sphynx and not another for the rest of your life, you are mistaken ;) Having a Sphynx in your home for even a couple of months will convince you that you must have another!
The joy Sphynx have brought into my life I wouldn't trade for anything in the world. Bahkti came to us in 2000 and I Championed him as an alter in TICA. We took in two adult Sphynx later in 2000, LeeLee a retired show cat and Bessie Mae. I have continued to show in both TICA and CFA and I am currently showing our queen Ohmie in CFA. We are anticipating having our first litter in the late fall of 2004 and are looking for just the right male to become the father of our baby kitties. Our focus in breeding is for health first, temperament, and the betterment of the breed.
There is something about this breed that is undeniably intoxicating. It is like when they look at you, they are looking into your soul. Like they see beyond your exterior into who you truly are. Sometimes I think they were put here just to remind us of the Divine. They are not like any other cat that exists today. They truly are sacred.
I so hope that you will allow these sacred beings into your life whether it is through us or another reputable breeder. The love you will experience from them is like no other.
